Today, we start our one day tour to Bungamati and Khokana village. First we will drive an hour to Bungamati which is just 10 km from Kathmandu. On this full day excursion you will admire the traditional architecture and rich culture that gives you the vibes of the medieval era. What makes Bungamati special is the fact that it is a traditional Newar village a place where not much has changed over the last couple of centuries. As you walk the way, you will catch hundreds of masterful wood carvers and sculptors offering you excellently hand crafted items at bargain prices. The Newars who live here live rural lives, following in the steps of their fathers and forefathers which lived here long before them. The Bungamati Newari enjoys an incredibly rich culture which extends over the fields of language, art, architecture and even tram – Himalayas. It is said that Bungamati is the birthplace of Rato Machhendranath and there is a large shikhara style temple of rato Machhendranath. Besides, Karya Binayak temple is situated which is one of the most important temples in Nepal which is dedicated to Lord Ganesh. Then we move to Khokana village which is situated just north of Bungamati. It is a tiny Newari village with a famous for two things –local temples and mustard oil. People Khokana village are limited to agriculture. Khokana is a typical village which can be taken as a model of a medieval settlement pattern with a drainage and chowks. The houses are formed in chaityas and a mother Goddess temple. The mustard oil seed industry has become the living heritage of the village. You can have a wonderful time viewing the mountain ranges and of course the beautiful land escape and farming over it. Here you can see women and children are sitting on the streets or in common courtyards, weaving, chatting and working under the sun. After our ending our tour we will back to our hotel.
