CoreTreks Commercial flights at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) was discontinued after the rapid spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19). It has been five months. We are finally starting to see some traffic around the city. People are less afraid and more focused on work. All these indicate a green light for commercial flights.
The cabinet meeting set on 20th July Monday approved the request of the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation to reopen domestic flights under the completion of adequate groundwork and implementation of safety protocols. The domestic flights will open from 17th August. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has already prepared rules for flight operation with social distancing and safety guidelines as per the World Health Organization (WHO).
The CAAN has also advised those who plan to travel to stay at home if they have a fever and/or cough, regardless of their travel or contact history.
All people (travelers) are advised to:
- Reduce social interactions
- Keep a distance of 2m between you and other people
- Do not shake hands or make close contact where possible
- Wash your hands well
- Cover your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing
- Avoid touching eyes, nose, or mouth
It is also advised to restrict movement for 14 days if someone has returned from an area that is subject to travel restrictions due to COVID-19.
Meanwhile, Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has been granting permission for international flights for a few chosen destinations.
All in all, we can expect commercial flights from next month. There is no doubt that it will take some time for things to get back to normal again. It will still be hard to access flights for all countries at the moment.
