Everest Base Camp Trek Cost

Mount Everest Introduction

Trekking to the foothills of the world’s tallest mountain is a privilege. It is one of the extraordinary places on the planet earth. Filled with adventurous treks accompanied by fellow trekkers and adventurers, you are up for one beautiful journey and a memory of a lifetime.

Recently, the Everest has just gotten taller by 0.86m. Yep, the tallest mountain in the world just got taller. The present height of Everest is officially 8848.86m. The mountain gains approximately 1 meter every century due to natural events. The Everest Base Camp Trek is one of the exquisite trekking experiences in Nepal. The flora and fauna of the region bring out even more profound beauty to this wonderful trekking journey.

So, how much does it cost to travel to Everest Base Camp?

A complete Everest Base Camp Trek costs USD 1,400 on average per pax at CoreTreks in 2020. Besides the VISA fee, International Airfare, and Personal Expenses, you get pretty much everything else.

On average, one will be spending anything around USD50 to USD100 per day on the way to the Everest Base Camp.

Now, let’s breakdown the total cost to find out where and when you will be spending the most or the least. Below are the six major categories.

Travel Insurance Cost

Safety first, always. A comprehensive Travel Insurance is mandatory for one to trek to the Everest Base Camp. It is one of the major parts of the Everest Base Camp Trek Cost that needs to be taken care of early.

Unforeseen circumstances such as acute sickness, sprains, or injuries might occur at the higher altitudes. In such situations, first aid treatment is provided immediately. If the condition worsens, the patient is air rescued to the nearest hospital or Kathmandu.

Therefore, having Travel Insurance ensures stress-free travel and an experience full of blissfulness. In Nepal, a 30-day Travel Insurance Cost for Everest Base Camp Trek is approximately USD150 to USD200.

Trekking Permit Cost for Everest Base Camp

Usually, this process is done by a travel agency. However, a few documents need to be provided to obtain all the required trekking permits for Everest Base Camp Trek. They are:

  • Passport Details
  • 2 Photographs

Below is the cost breakdown of permits required for Everest Base Camp Trek in Nepal.

  • Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit: NPR2,000 Per Person
  • Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit: NPR.3,000 Per Person

Additional Permit for Jiri to EBC (Everest Base Camp)

  • Gaurishankar Conservation Area Entry Permit: NPR.3,000

Important: Permit fees payable in local currency only.

Guides and Porters Fees

Everest Base Camp Trek cost also includes guides and porters fees. To trek alone is neither recommended nor legal in Nepal. A guide must accompany you even if you plan on trekking alone, which is good since they help to carry luggage as well.

The cost of guides and porters in Nepal is not fixed. Expect to pay somewhere from USD25 to USD40 per day. In my opinion, it is a pretty good deal. To have someone show you around while helping you with the luggage for 40 bucks is underrated. This is why a simple tip can help them a lot.

Transportation Cost

………………………………………………………………………

  • Flight from Kathmandu to Lukla:
  • Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu:

Food and Accommodation Expenses

The Everest region consists of well-managed accommodation options with delightful dinners scoping the majestic mountain range of Nepal. The prices are quite expensive, this is due to the limited transportation means at such altitude.

I would suggest you allocate USD25 to USD30 for basic meals and accommodation per day. Always carry some extra cash, just in case. It is important to note that, the higher you go, the expensive things will be.

  • Tea House: USD8 to USD10 per person/per night (Twin-Beds)
  • Food & Meals: USD15 to USD20 per person/per day
  • Drinks: Juice (USD5) or Beer (USD4)
  • Tea/Coffee: USD2 to USD5

Money-Saving Tips

Traveling under a budget is 100% doable if you follow some of the principles that we have for you. Below are some of the money-saving tips to help you travel under a budget.

  • Rent, do not buy. Trekking equipment can be rented in Nepal.
  • Purchase NCell /NT-SIM (USD1) for cheaper access to the internet.
  • Trek during the off-seasons. The traffic is less and so are the expenses.
  • Always carry a power bank. Instead of paying for charging your electronics, simply buy a power bank that can be used even after the trip.
  • Lastly, pick a Travel Agency to help you plan the trip.

Higly recommended I did the Langtang Valley trekk with Gosaikunda lakes included. The preparation and communication for that has been great all the time. Nim is an excellent and knowledgeable person. My Trekkingguide was Gorakh and i couldn't have hoped for a better one! I felt like i was in good hands throughout the trekk and he took care of my dietary needs. They also booked my bus ticket to Pokhara and asked the bus driver to pick me up at a place which was closer to my accommodation. Thank you so much Nim!! Next time i will do the Manaslu trekk with you :)

Trek to Rara Lake in Nepal with CoreTreks My wife and I had been planning to visit Nepal since like a year ago. We are really happy and satisfied with our trek to Rara Lake in Nepal. The place is really chilling with beautiful scenery all around. Luckily the weather was fantastic and we got a clear view of the mountains and the lake. We are really humbled to be able to experience such a rare privilege. Our guides informed us that the weather is often bad especially because of the altitude. The alpine vegetation surrounded by mountains was really special to observe. I would like to thank CoreTreks for helping us throughout our journey to Rara Lake.

Great service Beautiful temples and delicious food After touring around the Kathmandu valley, I’m inspired to explore more about Nepal. Unfortunately it will have to be during my next visit. The city is way busier than I expected it to be. As we drove outside the valley, we discovered some peaceful environment and beautiful temples. The Nepali cuisine in Kathmandu was something I would love to try again. They are spicy but delicious. I have to say that the people in Nepal are really friendly and welcoming. Everyone greeted us with love and treated us nicely. There was no fear for a lone traveler like me to get through the tour. Thanks to CoreTreks and the team for making this tour possible for me. I booked last minute but they helped me through everything. I really appreciate it. If you are looking to visit Nepal, I highly recommend that you book from CoreTreks they are the best.
