Trip Itinerary of Mera Peak Climbing In Nepal

Day 01
Arrival in Kathmandu

Altitude: 1350m

Welcome to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. You'll be picked up from the airport by our representative from the Tribhuvan International airport and taken to the hotel. There might be a short briefing session on this day and if that didn't happen it'll be held the next day.

Day 02
Preparation and Pre-Trip Meeting

After breakfast, we'll be meeting for a session where travelers will get introduced with their guides and other company representatives. They'll be briefed about the trip and all the permits regarding the trek and summit climb. Travelers may ask any question regarding the trek. The rest of your time in Kathmandu is free for further exploration or some last minute shopping in the Thamel area.

Day 03
Flight to Lukla and Trek to Paiya

Altitude: 2,840m/ 9,315 ft (Lukla) 2,610/ 8,560 ft. (Paiya)
Walking Duration: 6 hours trek 
Flight Time: 35 mins 

We take an early morning flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. The Lukla airport is one of the most exciting and thrilling flight experience in the world. The scenic view of the Himalayas welcomes you to the Everest region of Nepal. Upon reaching Lukla, we start our trek towards the Chutok La Pass and then finally we'll reach our destination for the day, the Paiya village

Day 04
Paiya to Panggom

Altitude: 2,846 m/ 9,337ft (Panggom)
Walking Duration: 6 hours

On this day we'll be ascending steep trail to cross the Zatrawala Pass and walk towards Zatrabok. Along the way, spectacular views of Numbur Himal, Kongdi Ri, Karyolang Peak and many other peaks can be observed. We then descend to Khartitang and upon reaching Panggom we'll call it a day.

Day 05
Panggom to Ningsow

Altitude: 2,863 m/ 9,393ft (Ningsow)
Walking Duration: 5 hours

After having our breakfast, we continue our trek towards Kothe. We take a steep descent trail through the juniper and rhododendron forest during our walk. We'll be done for the day upon our arrival at Ningsow.

Day 06
Ningsow to Chhatra Khola

Altitude: 2,800m/9,186ft (Chhatra Khola)
Walking Duration: 8 hours

We head towards the Tangnang on this day penetrating the Hinku valley. The trail gradually ascends towards the Himalayas offering the mesmerizing view of the Kusum Kanguru.

Day 07
Chhatra Khola to Tangnang

Altitude: 3,691m/ 12,109 ft (Tangnang)
Walking Duration: 7 hours

The day is set for acclimatization to get ourselves adjusted to the high elevation climatic conditions. We rest at Tangnang. We walk around the valley and explore the local culture of the Sherpa people and their settlements. Stunning views of peaks and glaciers can be enjoyed from this place too.

Day 08
Tngnang to Thaknak

Altitude: 4,358m m/ 14,297ft (Thaknak)
Walking Duration: 4 hours

On this day of our trekking and expedition in Nepal's Himalayas, we climb up along the lateral moraine of the glacier. This route provides an interesting view of the Mera Peak.

Day 09
Thaknak to Khare

Altitude: 4,045m/ 16,486ft (Khare)
Walking Duration: 3 hours

Upon arriving at Khare we set the day aside for acclimatization. We rest our bodies and prepare ourselves for the summiting the Mera Peak.

Day 10
Acclimatization and Pre-Climbing training

On this day we try to get accustomed and familiar with all the climbing gear and equipment. The guides and Sherpas will give us some important information and teach some skills if needed in order to climb the peak.

Day 11
Khare to Mera High Camp

Altitude: 5,780 m/ 18,958ft (Mera High Camp)
Duration: 7 hours

We progress along the snowy glacier and approach the pass as we continue towards the high camp. The stunning panorama view of the mighty mountains rising above the 7000m can be witness up close in front of us. Some of the notable mountain peaks are Chamlang, Makalu, Baruntse, Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama dablam, Cho Oyu, and Kantega.

Day 12
Mera High Camp to Mera Peak Summit and Back to Khare

Altitude: 6,461 m/ 21,190ft (Mera Peak summit); 5,045 m/ 16,547 ft. (Khare)
Duration: 9 hours

The big day has finally arrived! We will be waking up at around 1 AM in the morning for preparation. After having something to eat we then start our summit. It takes around 4-6 hours to reach the summit of the peak. The amazing view of the scenic landscapes and beautiful mountain peaks can be seen from the top of the summit. After spending some time at the top, we retrace ourselves down to high camp. We rest for a while and eat some hot food and then descend back towards Khare for the night.

Day 13
Reserve Day for Contingency

The weather in these regions are unpredictable and we won't know if the weather would be in our favor on the day of our summit. So in case that the weather turns out to be bad, we have reserved this day if we're unable to summit the Mera Peak on day 12. We should wisely postpone our program of scaling the peak if the weather gets unfavorable. If the trip goes on smoothly then we do not need to spare this day and we continue our trek further.

Day 14
Khare to Kothe

Altitude: 3,600m / 11,808ft (Kothe)
Duration: 5 hours

We continue our descend downhill towards Tangnang leaving the mountains behind us. We then reach to Kothey and spend the night there.

Day 15
Kothe to Thuli Kharka

Altitude: 4,300m m/ 14,107ft (Thuli Kharka)
Duration: 6 hours

On this day we walk back towards Zatrabok. This trail has to offer the magnificent views of the alpine vegetation of pine and rhododendron forest.

Day 16
Thuli Kharka to Lukla

Duration: 7 hours

We head towards Chutenga and our trail ascends until we reach to the Zatrwa La Pass. From there our trail descends up until the village of Chutenga. We reach towards Lukla and call it a day. This is also the last stay of our trip in the Everest region.

Day 17
Lukla to Kathmandu

Duration: 35 mins flight

We'll take a morning flight from Lukla to Kathmandu as we again fly over the scenic Himalayas and savor the beauty from above for one last time. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, we head back to our hotels and put down our belongings. Core Treks will organize a dinner program for the guests in a traditional Nepali restaurant where traditional cuisine will be served along with some cultural dances.

Day 18

The time has come to say goodbye and bid farewell as the trip has finally come to an end. A representative from Core Treks will transport you to Tribhuvan International Airport around 2 hours before your flight departure.

Mera Peak Climbing is a combination of trekking and climbing. You can expect some regular trekking for most of the part but on the last push to the summit, it becomes a challenging climb.


Yes, it is safe to climb the Mera Peak with expert guidance and some important training sessions beforehand. However emergencies could arrive, that is why our team is always connected to you through different means.


Climbers can expect to visit the highest trekking peak in Nepal, the summit of Mera Peak (6,461m). Expect some challenging climbing and be prepared for a spectacular view of five of the world’s tallest mountains, the Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Makalu and Kanchenjunga. 


The food is generally our traditional Nepali lunch which is Dal (Lentil Soup), Bhat (Boiled Rice), Tarkari (Veggies), and Achar (Pickle).

For the accommodation there are specially Hotels & Lodges, Tea houses, and Camping facilities. However due to land structure and not much development in the area you will need to set camps at a higher altitude.

Altitude Sickness: 

Symptoms of Altitude Sickness may start once you reach 1500-2000 meters and upwards. If you gain altitude rapidly without letting your body adapt to the thin oxygen at higher altitudes, you are most likely to suffer from Altitude Sickness. But if you plan for acclimatization days to your itinerary, you are good to go. 

The itinerary includes acclimatization days to avoid Altitude Sickness. The sickness is common at high altitudes. Please note that sickness is a topic to be taken very seriously. Here are some few extra preventions: 

  • Avoid climbing rapidly, give your body some time to adjust 
  • Drink more water, not less than 5 liters a day 
  • Eat more, eat often, and eat healthily 
  • Listen to your body, do not ignore symptoms 
  • Do not skip acclimatization days 
  • Be prepared in case of an emergency 

Safety and Security 

A comprehensive Travel Insurance is mandatory while trekking with CoreTreks. However, there are a few measures that you can implement to ensure safety: 

  • Secure your belongings 
  • Do not flash cash or jewelry 
  • Have an emergency plan 
  • Do not trek alone 
  • Only choose authorized trekking agencies 

Trekking Equipment 

CoreTreks will provide you with the essentials such as a Down jacket, four seasonal sleeping bags, a duffle bag, a t-shirt, a trekking map, a self-sufficient medical first aid kit, and more. These are to be returned after completion of the trek. 

Personal mountaineering gears are not included but we will provide you with a list of equipment necessary for your trek. 

Walking Hours 

On average, walking time per day is 5-6 hours below 3,000m. For altitudes higher than 3,000m the average walking time is 3-5 hours per day. The walking hours may vary according to conditions but do not exceeds 6 hours mark per day. 

Hiring a Porter/Guide 

An experienced guide will be provided for a group of 1-5. A group consisting of 6-12 individuals will be provided with 2 professional guides. The package also includes a porter for every 2 individuals.
