Best Time For Bhutan Tour
Choosing the right time to travel for the 3 Nights 4 Days Bhutan Tour is crucial for the best traveling experience. It helps to make the journey more comfortable and enjoyable. Bhutan experiences four seasons annually. Each season has its unique characteristics. Take a look at the brief of each season to understand which one is the best time to visit Bhutan:
Spring (March to May)
Spring is one of the best times to visit Bhutan. The weather is clear, bright, and sunny, with moderate temperatures. Bhutan’s average temperature is around 4 to 23 degrees Celsius. The southern region’s temperature is around 20 degrees Celsius, while the northern region’s ranges between 8 to 10 degrees Celsius. There is deficient rainfall at this time of the year, so you do not have to worry about a downpour during the tour.
As the country lies in the Eastern Himalayas, the higher regions have dense forests of rhododendrons. These forests are in full bloom in different red, pink, and white colors during spring. Similarly, other various wildflowers are also in full bloom, adding to the beauty of Bhutan’s beautiful landscapes. It is the most active time for flora and fauna. So, you can witness the true beauty of the country at this time of the year. The famous five-festival, Paro Tsechu, also falls in spring (late March/ early April). So, it is one of the best times for the Bhutan Tour.
Summer (June to August)
Summer marks the arrival of monsoons in Bhutan, and there is heavy rainfall across the country. It is off-season for trekking in the country. Hence, there are very few travelers at this time of the year. The days are cloudy, and views are obstructed. Moreover, the continuous rainfall causes landslides and floods, blocking the roadway. The average temperature during Summer is 15 to 25 degrees Celsius.
The Nimalung Tshechu festival, which marks Guru Rinpoche’s birth anniversary, falls now. However, due to the unfavorable weather, the summer season is not recommended to visit Bhutan.
Autumn (September to November)
Autumn is the most suitable time for the 4-day, 3-night Bhutan Tour. It is the most favorable time for trekking and touring the tiny Himalayan country. The days are crisp and clear, and the temperatures are mild. Bhutan’s average temperature is around 5 to 23 degrees Celsius. Similarly, the temperature of the country’s southern region is around 22 degrees Celsius, and the northern region’s temperature is between 4 to 12 degrees Celsius. The precipitation level is low, and there is very little rainfall.
The vibrant autumn foliage makes the touring experience much more enjoyable. It enhances the landscape’s natural beauty. Likewise, the visibility is incredible, with very few obstructions. In higher-altitude regions, slight snowfall can occur at the end of autumn. Famous festivals like Thimphu Tsechu, Tamzhing Phala Choepa, and Thangbi Mani also fall during this time. As a result, you will get a chance to witness these vibrant celebrations during your Bhutan Tour. The pleasant days with beautiful scenery enhance your touring experience.
Winter (December to February)
With the beginning of the winter season, the higher regions of the country begin to receive snowfall. However, the weather is warm during the day. It is also the best time to witness the stunning panoramas of the country. The average temperature is around 3 to 15 degrees Celsius, but it gets quite chilly as the season progresses. It can drop below freezing temperature. It is an off-season for trekking and touring. So, there are very few tourists around this time of the year. However, visiting the Kingdom of Bhutan is one of the best times.
The black-neck cranes return to Bhutan for winter. Therefore, you will have a chance to spot them. Although the weather is cold, winter is a great time for a 3-night 4, Days Bhutan Tour. The annual three-day festival, Trongsa Tshechu, is celebrated in Trongsa Dzong at this time. With fewer tourists, you can enjoy visiting the famous sites peacefully without crowds.
Food and Meal options
Bhutanese dishes are unique and packed with flavor. During your 3-night 4 Days in Bhutan, you will taste many of them. These dishes contain a lot of meat, mushrooms, and cheese. Locals here eat very spicy food, so be ready for it. You will find restaurants that serve local cuisines as well as international dishes. While on tour, you can indulge in a traditional and national Bhutanese dish, Ema Datsi. “Ema” means “chili,” and “Datsi” means “cheese.” It is a chili and cheese stew cooked with onions and tomatoes.
Similarly, you can taste other traditional dishes like red rice, Phaksha Paa (pork with red chilies), Gowan Hogey (cucumber salad), Shakam Paa (dried beef with chilies), momos (dumpling), Hoentay (stuffed dumplings), Jasha Maru (spicy chicken stew), Suja (butter tea), Ara (Traditional alcoholic beverages), and more. The meals are usually affordable, costing around USD 2 to USD 5 per person. However, international cuisines and fancy restaurants are undoubtedly expensive.
With CoreTreks’ 4 Day 3 Night Bhutan Tour, three meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) per day are included. Meals outside the package are your expenses. If you have any dietary expenses, let us know when you book.
Accommodation Options in Bhutan Tour
Various types of accommodations are available in Bhutan. You can find budget-friendly hotels, boutique inns, standard hotels, guesthouses, homestays, and luxurious resorts. These stays offer unique hospitality to their guests. You can choose the one that best fits your budget and preferences.
The government classifies its hotels into grades A, B, and C. During your tour, you will stay at accommodations recognized by the government. In addition to bedding, these places have facilities such as electricity, hot and cold water, phone calls, etc. You can find luxurious stays in cities like Thimpu and Paro. However, when you travel on the outskirts of the cities, the choice of hotels becomes limited. The facilities are also basic in higher altitude regions, with limited amenities. You will stay at small teahouses and homestays in such rural areas.
You can choose your accommodation based on what best suits your needs. High-grade hotels are expensive and may charge extra fees. Similarly, they can get fully packed during tourist seasons (spring and autumn), so it is best to plan a flexible tour itinerary for your Bhutan trip.
3 Nights 4 Days Bhutan Tour Level of Difficulty
The Bhutan Tour is a fairly moderate and exciting journey. It is one of the safest countries in the world. However, like any country, travelers may come across a few difficulties. The difficulty level depends on the activities and destination. Bhutan used to be a secluded country, and there are still strict tourism regulations. But that is not the only challenge for travelers. The country’s varying geography is another factor that contributes to the tour’s difficulty.
Bhutan’s elevation ranges from flat plains to high-altitude Himalayan regions, so travelers may experience altitude-related difficulties. Those ascending to an elevation above 2,500 meters may succumb to altitude sickness. Proper acclimatization and precautions should be taken to minimize the risk significantly. Likewise, ascending to higher altitudes can be physically demanding and mentally taxing. The weather can also vary from region to region. So, make sure you prepare adequately before the journey, especially if you are trekking in Bhutan.
The road conditions outside the major cities like Thimpu, the capital of Bhutan, are rough and off-road. It goes through hills, ridges, and mountains, and the ride is quite bumpy. So, travelers must be prepared for an adventurous ride on the rugged roads of Bhutan. Many Westerners can experience cultural shock during the Bhutan Tour. The vast cultural differences and language barrier can make the journey a little difficult. Travelers are advised to be respectful of the local culture. Ask for permission before taking photographs of people, monasteries, and rituals. The locals are warm and friendly but very protective of their culture and traditions. The trip to Bhutan will be a comfortable and memorable adventure with proper preparation and precautions.
Altitude Sickness and Remedies in Bhutan Tour
Travelers can experience altitude-related sickness when traveling to an altitude above 2,500 meters. It is due to the lower level of oxygen and reduced air pressure in the atmosphere. Travelers may start to feel discomfort and various symptoms of altitude sickness. The most common symptoms include nausea, headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, extreme fatigue, insomnia, loss of appetite, shortness of breath, etc.
The symptoms of altitude sickness vary from one person to another. Some can experience mild symptoms, while others can experience severe ones. The mildest form of the sickness is Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Meanwhile, the progressive and severe forms of altitude sickness are High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE) and High Altitude Cerebral Edema (HACE). The severe symptoms can be fatal and require immediate medical assistance. Therefore, proper precautions are necessary to minimize the risk.
There are several methods travelers can take to minimize or avoid altitude sickness. Some of the preventive methods are as follows:
- Ascend to higher elevations gradually. It helps your body acclimatize and adjust to the growing altitude.
- Follow the rule of “trek high and sleep low.” It means although you climb to high-elevation areas, you sleep at lower altitudes.
- Keep yourself well-hydrated throughout the Bhutan Tour. It helps to prevent the risk significantly.
- If you start to feel unwell or have symptoms of altitude sickness, descend to lower altitude regions immediately. This will help your body recover from the lack of oxygen.
- To prevent altitude sickness, you can take medications like acetazolamide or Diamox. These medications can relieve the symptoms. It gives you enough time to descend to a lower altitude.

General
Is 4 days enough for Bhutan?
Absolutely! 4 days are enough to explore the major attractions of Bhutan. With a well-planned itinerary, you can explore iconic places around Paro and Thimphu, such as Tiger’s Nest Monastery, museums, the Buddha Dordenma statue, and many more. You can also explore the local markets and try the local dishes in a budget-friendly way within a short time.
Why is Bhutan so expensive?
Traveling in Bhutan is costly because every tourist must pay a Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) of USD 200 per person each day. The country has a “high value, low impact” tourism policy. It strives to minimize the negative impact on the environment and contribute to the local economy. Asian countries like India, Maldives, and Bangladesh only have to pay USD 65 per person for SDF.
Is food cheap in Bhutan?
Food in Bhutan is affordable, with a decent meal costing around USD 2 to USD 5 per person. Local foods, such as ema datshi, kewa datshi, dumplings, rice, curries, etc., are cheap and can be found at any Bhutanese restaurant. Meanwhile, Western cuisines are a bit more expensive. Most Bhutanese dishes have cheese and meat, but vegetarian dishes are also available.
How to dress for 4 Day 3 Night Bhutan Tour?

So, it is best not to wear revealing clothes out of respect for the locals and the country’s culture. You should wear warm clothes as mornings and nights can be a bit chilly. Also, carry lightweight rain gear, as occasional rain showers can occur in the afternoon.
Is it mandatory to take a guide in 4 Day 3 Night Bhutan Tour?
As of September 2022, you can travel independently in the western valleys of Paro and Thimphu without a guide. However, you must hire a licensed guide if you want to travel outside of these valleys. I didn’t have much time to prepare in detail, and I wasn’t sure about the weather, so I left everything to the last minute. In the end, everything turned out great! Before the trip, I met with Neem, who helped me buy an eSIM (though Ncell doesn’t work as well in the mountains as Namaste). It’s not as easy to get one in Kathmandu as you might think!I also had a wonderful guide, Bhim, who took care of everything for me, so I didn’t have to worry about a thing. He even bought fruit for me, knowing better which ones were ripe.
