Upon reaching the foot of the highest peak in the world, we can also see other stunning mountain views, including Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Ama Dablam, and many more. Besides that, in the Khumbu Region of Nepal, popularly known as the community of Sherpa people, we can also immerse ourselves in their local culture and traditions.

Classic Everest Trek Route

EBC is 200 to 300 kilometers away from Kathmandu. Upon reaching Lukla, it is about 65 km away and takes 7 to 8 hours of daily hiking. Starting our journey from Kathmandu, we will take a bus from the Bus Park in the early morning and head towards our first destination, Bhandar, via Jiri. Our leg journey starts here, and we will start hiking from Bhandar towards Sete. Passing through other small villages and staying in different places such as Junbesi, Nautala, Bupsa Danda, and Surke, we will finally make up to Phakding on our 8th day of trekking.

This route connects the standard route of the Everest Base Camp, and we will be crossing a high-suspension bridge to make up to Namche Bazaar. With day acclimatization in Namche Bazaar, we can explore this bustling town and interact with local sherpa people while enjoying the mesmerizing view the place offers. On the other days, we will cross through Tengboche and Dingboche while adding one more acclimatization day in Dingboche. As we ascend further, we pass by Loubche and finally make our way to Everest Base Camp on the 15th day, passing Gorakshep.

After some time of immersion in the beauty of the EBC, we will return to Gorakshep, where we will have an overnight stay. The next morning, we will visit Kala Patthar to see the best sunrise views over the mountains. Upon reaching there and witnessing the surrounding area, it's finally time for us to return. Altitude Sickness

Altitude sickness is a condition that occurs when you go to high places too quickly, and your body doesn’t get enough oxygen, leading to symptoms like headache, nausea, and dizziness. It’s important to climb gradually, stay hydrated, and listen to your body to prevent altitude sickness. Here are five simple ways to prevent it when climbing the classic EBC trek:

  • Take your time, and don’t rush. As you climb higher, let your body adjust to the altitude.
  • Drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated. Avoid alcohol and caffeine, as they can dehydrate you.
  • Take rest days as you climb higher to get your body used to the altitude.
  • Eat foods rich in carbohydrates and avoid heavy meals. Your body needs energy to adapt to the altitude.
  • Pay attention to how you’re feeling. If you start to feel unwell or experience symptoms of altitude sickness, descend to a lower altitude immediately.

Get Medical Checkup

Getting a medical checkup before the Everest Base Camp trek is crucial for your safety. It helps identify any health problems that could make the trek difficult. The checkup ensures you’re physically fit enough to handle the challenges of high altitude and strenuous hiking. It also allows you to discuss preventive measures with your healthcare provider, such as vaccinations and medications for altitude sickness.
