20 Days Everest Base Camp Classic Trek Overview
Everest Base Camp Classic Trek takes you along a different trekking route to Everest Base Camp. Instead of taking the regular Lukla to Kathmandu flight, we take a road travel option from Jiri to Bhandar. Considered the best alternative option, this route adjoins Phakding after a week of trekking through villages such as Jiri, Bhandar, Junbesi, Sete, Nauthatla, and many more.
Mainly popular as the route taken by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, the trek passes through the Sagarmatha National Park and its varied topography. The trek passes through glacial rivers, alpine meadows, forests, and rugged landscapes, offering stunning views of snow-capped peaks. Upon reaching the foot of the highest peak in the world, we can also see other stunning mountain views, including Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Ama Dablam, and many more. Besides that, in the Khumbu Region of Nepal, popularly known as the community of Sherpa people, we can also immerse ourselves in their local culture and traditions.
If you are looking for a different route to the EBC trek, we have brought the Classic Everest Base Camp Trek for you. Our 20-day adventurous journey will allow you to explore the Sherpa people's beautiful village, rich culture, topography, and stunning landscapes with snow-covered mountains. This 20-day Everest Base Camp Classic Trek expedition blends adventure, culture, nature, and wildlife exploration to give you the best and most memorable experience.
Classic Everest Trek Route
EBC is 200 to 300 kilometers away from Kathmandu. Upon reaching Lukla, it is about 65 km away and takes 7 to 8 hours of daily hiking. Starting our journey from Kathmandu, we will take a bus from the Bus Park in the early morning and head towards our first destination, Bhandar, via Jiri. Our leg journey starts here, and we will start hiking from Bhandar towards Sete. Passing through other small villages and staying in different places such as Junbesi, Nautala, Bupsa Danda, and Surke, we will finally make up to Phakding on our 8th day of trekking.
This route connects the standard route of the Everest Base Camp, and we will be crossing a high-suspension bridge to make up to Namche Bazaar. With day acclimatization in Namche Bazaar, we can explore this bustling town and interact with local sherpa people while enjoying the mesmerizing view the place offers. On the other days, we will cross through Tengboche and Dingboche while adding one more acclimatization day in Dingboche. As we ascend further, we pass by Loubche and finally make our way to Everest Base Camp on the 15th day, passing Gorakshep.
After some time of immersion in the beauty of the EBC, we will return to Gorakshep, where we will have an overnight stay. The next morning, we will visit Kala Patthar to see the best sunrise views over the mountains. Upon reaching there and witnessing the surrounding area, it's finally time for us to return. We descend to Pheriche, to Namche Bazarr, and finally to Lukla. We then take an early morning flight to Kathmandu and spend a full day at the hotel. On day 20, you will finally say goodbye to Nepal and head toward your destination.

When trekking to the Everest region, the most common means of accommodation you get is teahouses. They offer basic facilities with dormitory rooms, shared bathrooms, and communal dining spaces, where you can interact with other trekkers. Besides that, you can also go camping if you want more adventures. You can carry camping gear from the beginning or ask your travel agency to arrange it.
For meals, you get Nepali traditional cuisine such as Dal Bhat, vegetables, soups, and momo, for lunch and dinner. Similarly, for breakfast you get options like bread, omlets, pancakes, tea, or coffee. If you are diet-conscious, you must make it clear to your agency before your trekking journey. When booking with us, we offer you a stay at teahouses and also provide three meal facilities.
Altitude Sickness
Altitude sickness is a condition that occurs when you go to high places too quickly, and your body doesn’t get enough oxygen, leading to symptoms like headache, nausea, and dizziness. It’s important to climb gradually, stay hydrated, and listen to your body to prevent altitude sickness. Here are five simple ways to prevent it when climbing the classic EBC trek:
- Take your time, and don’t rush. As you climb higher, let your body adjust to the altitude.
- Drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated. Avoid alcohol and caffeine, as they can dehydrate you.
- Take rest days as you climb higher to get your body used to the altitude.
- Eat foods rich in carbohydrates and avoid heavy meals. Your body needs energy to adapt to the altitude.
- Pay attention to how you’re feeling. If you start to feel unwell or experience symptoms of altitude sickness, descend to a lower altitude immediately.
Get Medical Checkup
Getting a medical checkup before the Everest Base Camp trek is crucial for your safety. It helps identify any health problems that could make the trek difficult. The checkup ensures you’re physically fit enough to handle the challenges of high altitude and strenuous hiking. It also allows you to discuss preventive measures with your healthcare provider, such as vaccinations and medications for altitude sickness. A medical checkup helps ensure a safer and more enjoyable trekking experience.

I didn’t have much time to prepare in detail, and I wasn’t sure about the weather, so I left everything to the last minute. In the end, everything turned out great! Before the trip, I met with Neem, who helped me buy an eSIM (though Ncell doesn’t work as well in the mountains as Namaste). It’s not as easy to get one in Kathmandu as you might think!I also had a wonderful guide, Bhim, who took care of everything for me, so I didn’t have to worry about a thing. He even bought fruit for me, knowing better which ones were ripe. The choice of teahouses wasn’t fixed in advance, and it was nice that he let me decide — although, even then, I preferred to rely on his experience. In short, the trip was a success, and I truly recommend this company and these people.Agi from UK.Posted on Katarzyna SVerified Amazing experience We would like to thank you very much for organizing a wonderful trip.
