Best Time To Visit Everest Panorama Trek

Nepal experiences four seasons, but not all have the right weather conditions for trekking. We have classified the seasons into on and off-season categories so you can understand which seasons are the best times for the Everest Panorama Trek.

Peak Season

Spring (March to May)

Spring is one of the best times for the Everest Panorama Trek. It has one of the most stable weather with moderate temperatures. Similarly, the skies are clear, and the visibility is brilliant. The precipitation level is also minimal. In early spring, there is light snowfall in higher regions. The trails are also covered with snow. As the season progresses, the weather becomes warmer, and the snow melts. The flora and fauna also become active due to the warm weather conditions. Spring brings lush forests and blooming flowers. The dense rhododendron forests also bloom in red, white, and pink colors, giving the trial scenic beauty. You may also catch a glimpse of rare wildlife.

Daytime temperature Around 15°C
Nighttime temperature Around -1°C

Autumn (September to November)

The next best time for the Everest Panorama Trek is autumn. The weather is the most stable, with mild temperatures. There can be slight rainfall in early autumn as the monsoon remains in Nepal. It soon ends, and the trails become dry, leaving the vegetation lush and fresh. Hence, it has the most comfortable trekking weather conditions. The visibility is also extremely clear during autumn. So. it is a favorite season for trekking in Nepal, including the Everest region. Autumn brings vibrant colors to the landscapes of the Everest Region. It is a season for festivals and holidays in Nepal. You can enjoy the festive atmosphere while trekking, but make sure to book your flights and accommodations in advance.

Daytime temperature Around 17°C
Nighttime temperature Around -8°C

Off seasons

Summer (June to August)

The summer season is an off-season for trekking in Nepal. Monsoons coincide with the summer season, which brings heavy rainfall to the country. The lower and hilly regions receive much rain, but most higher areas remain dry. As a result, the trails in the lower and hilly regions are muddy, wet, and slippery. Heavy rain can also cause landslides and mudslides. The temperature is hot and humid, so trekking in summer is rather uncomfortable. Therefore, trekking at this time of the year is not suitable for Everest Panorama Trek.

Daytime temperature Around 22°C
Nighttime temperature Around 4°C

Winter (December to February)

As winter begins, the weather starts to become colder. There is a significant drop in the temperature, which can drop below the freezing zone in higher regions. It also begins to snow at high altitude areas. The snow covers the trail, making it icy and slippery. The cold and harsh winter weather makes trekking extremely challenging. However, there are only a few trekkers on trails, and one can enjoy a quiet trekking experience. It is also the best time to enjoy the snowy landscapes of the Khumbu region.

Daytime temperature Around -5°C
Nighttime temperature Drop below -15°C

Permits Required For Panorama Trek

Following the same route to Everest Base Camp, the Panorama trek requires two permits: a Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit and a Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit. You can get these permits from the Tourism Board in Kathmandu or at the entry gate of Sagarmatha National Park in Monjo.

Sagarmatha National Park Permit

Getting this permit is necessary as the trial passed through Sagarmatha National Park. This permits ensures safe and sound travel without harming the surrounding areas. The pass costs NPR 1500 for SAARC nationals, NPR 3000 for foreigners, and NPR 200 for locals of Nepal.

Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit

This permit is necessary to explore the restricted places in the surrounding areas. Without getting this permit, you cannot enter the listed restricted places. You cannot get this permit alone; you require an experienced trek guide from a registered travel agency. The cost of these permits is the same for each individual, i.e., NPR 2000 per person.

Everest Panorama Trek Difficulty

The Everest Panorama Trek is an easy to moderate journey. It is suitable for trekkers of all ages and experience levels. However, a few factors make the trek a difficult venture. They are as follows:

Unpredictable Weather

The weather at higher altitude areas changes rapidly despite the season. The unpredictable weather can cause unforeseen challenges during the trek. It can delay the plans in the itinerary. Similarly, the temperature also varies drastically as you move from lower altitude regions to higher ones. There can be sudden temperature drops, which can even decrease below freezing.

High wind is common in the afternoon, making climbing to a higher altitude difficult. Unpredictable weather can also cause flight delays and cancellations. Trekkers must check the weather forecast and start early to better prepare for the journey. It is also crucial to check the proper clothing and gear.

Seasonal Difficulties

Picking the right season for the Everest Panorama Trek is crucial for a comfortable and memorable experience. Seasonal difficulties can make the trek more challenging. Spring and autumn are the two best times for trekking. The stable weather and moderate temperatures make trekking easier. However, the trails are crowded, and trekkers must book their accommodations and flights in advance.

Meanwhile, trekking in summer and winter is full of challenges. The rainfall during summer makes the trails wet and slippery. Similarly, the temperature is also hot and humid. Trekking in winter is highly challenging due to heavy snowfall and drop in temperature. The trails are covered with snow, making them icy and slippery. However, the trails are quiet and empty. If you are a beginner, it is best to choose on-season for trekking. Off-season trekking is more suitable for seasoned trekkers. However, they must thoroughly prepare for it and carry proper gear and supplies.

Altitude Sickness

Over 25% of trekkers begin to experience the symptoms of altitude sickness as they ascend to an altitude higher than 2500 meters. The lack of oxygen and decreased air pressure in the atmosphere can cause various symptoms of altitude sickness. Based on the symptoms, there are three types of altitude sickness.

Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS)

The most common and mild form of altitude sickness is Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Its symptoms include nausea, headache, dizziness, fatigue, insomnia, difficulty breathing, swelling, etc. If trekkers start experiencing symptoms of AMS, they should stop ascending immediately and rest. They can take medications like acetazolamide, but if the symptoms persist, they should descend to lower altitudes.

High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE)

High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE) is a severe form of altitude sickness. It is a more progressive form of AMS that occurs when fluid accumulates in the lungs due to a lack of oxygen. The symptoms usually include fatigue, chest tightness, persistent dry cough, shortness of breath, rapid heartbeat, cyanosis (lips, nails, skin turning blue or gray), and confusion. Trekkers should descend to the lower region immediately and seek medical attention if they start experiencing HAPE.

High Altitude Cerebral Edema (HACE)

High Altitude Cerebral Edema (HACE) is the most severe form of altitude sickness. It is a progressive form of AMS and can potentially be life-threatening without proper medical attention. It occurs when fluid accumulates in the brain due to a lack of oxygen in the body. The symptoms of HACE include severe headache, fatigue, nausea, confusion, ataxia (loss of coordination), hallucinations, slurred speech, loss of consciousness, and seizures.

How to Prevent it?

  • Altitude sickness can quickly turn fatal if you do not take proper action immediately. You can take a few steps to prevent it:
  • Ascend to a higher altitude gradually. Do not rush to higher elevations, and give your body time to adjust to the growing altitude.
  • Take rest or acclimatization days in between. It is a crucial step that helps your body adapt to the changing altitude, temperature, and surroundings.
  • Climb high and sleep low. In the daytime, you can climb to a higher altitude and descend to a slightly lower elevation to sleep.
  • Keep yourself hydrated throughout the journey. Drink at least 3 to 4 liters of water each day.
  • Eat a healthy and nutritious diet. A high-carb and high-protein diet keeps your body energized during the trek.
  • Avoid excessive intake of caffeine and alcohol. These cause dehydration and worsen the symptoms of altitude sickness.
  • Carry altitude sickness medications like acetazolamide or Diamox. However, consult with health professionals before taking the medicines.

Accommodations And Meals During Everest Panorama Trek

When trekking to the Everest region, the most common means of accommodation you get is teahouses. They offer basic facilities with dormitory rooms, shared bathrooms, and communal dining spaces where you can interact with other trekkers. Besides that, you can also go camping if you want more adventures. You can carry camping gear from the beginning or ask your travel agency to arrange it.

Hotel Everest View

Nepali traditional cuisine, such as Dal Bhat, vegetables, soups, and momo, is served for lunch and dinner. Similarly, for breakfast, you have options like bread, omelets, pancakes, tea, or coffee. If you are diet-conscious, you must inform your agency before your trekking journey. When booking with us, you can stay at teahouses and also have three meal facilities.

What Is The Easiest Trek To See Mount Everest?

The 10-Day Everest Panorama Trek is the easiest trek to see Mount Everest. The trek begins from Lukla and follows the classic trekking trail up to Tengboche. It is the same trail that leads to the Everest Base Camp. You will trek through dense subtropical forests of rhododendrons, oaks, firs, alpine meadows, and highland pastures. Similarly, you will pass by famous settlements like Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Thame, Khumjung, and Tengboche. From Namche Bazaar, you will get your first glimpse of Mount Everest. Then, as you gradually ascend to higher elevation, the mountain view becomes more clearer. You can also witness the spectacular view of Mount Everest from Thame, Khumjung, and Tengboche.

The maximum altitude you will reach during the Everest Panorama Trek is 3860 meters. Hence, the risk of altitude sickness is also minimal. The trails are challenging, but there is no need to cross high mountain passes. You will trek on well-designated and well-marked trails. With proper preparation, you can overcome the difficulties of the trek. Therefore, if you are searching for the easiest trek to see Mount Everest, Everest Panorama Trek is a perfect match for you!

Where to Start the Everest Panorama Trek?

The starting and ending point of the Everest Panorama Trek is Lukla. You will fly to Lukla from Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, or Manthali Airport, Ramechhap. During peak trekking season, your flight from Kathmandu may be redirected to Ramechhap due to air traffic congestion. You must first drive to Ramechhap from Kathmandu, which takes around 5 hours. The flight from Kathmandu to Lukla takes 40 minutes, while it takes only 20 minutes to fly from Ramechhap.

Ready to Take of plane at Lukla airport

The Everest Panorama Trek covers a total distance of approximately 30 to 40 kilometers (18 to 25 miles), depending on the routes. The average trekking hours per day is around 4 to 5 hours. Similarly, trekkers must cover 8 to 10 kilometers per day. You will trek from Lukla, following the classic trail to Tengboche (3860 m). You will also take an acclimatization day at Namche Bazaar. Then, you will retrace your steps back to Lukla. Within ten days, you will trek on the adventurous trails and experience the rich culture of the Everest region with the Everest Panorama Trek.

How to Get There?

The most common and convenient way of getting to the Everest region is by flight from Lukla. Taking a roadway takes longer but is more affordable. Let us explore more about getting to Lukla.

Flight To Lukla

There are frequent domestic flights between Kathmandu and Lukla. You will board the flight from Tribhuvan International Airport and land at the Tenzing Hillary Airport. The Tenzing Hillary Airport is one of the world’s most dangerous airports. It has a short and steep runway, and mountains surround the airport. The weather at Lukla can change at any time, even during on-season. Therefore, the flights can get delayed due to bad weather conditions and poor visibility.

During peak season, the high traffic congestion can cause the flight from Kathmandu to be redirected to Manthali Airport, Ramechhap. At such times, you must first drive to Ramechhap, which takes 5 hours from Kathmandu. Meanwhile, the flight from Kathmandu takes 20 minutes. Flight to Lukla is one of the thrilling parts of the Everest Panorama Trek. It offers an aerial view of the Khumbu landscapes and stunning mountain vistas.

Tara aircraft at Lukla airport

The cost of a Kathmandu to Lukla flight ranges from USD 180 to 300, which can be higher during peak season. Since the Tenzing Hillary Airport is notorious for its rapid weather changes, trekkers are highly advised to add a couple of extra days to their itinerary. A flexible itinerary provides peace of mind in case of flight delay or cancellation.

Luggage limit

The luggage limit for domestic flights is 15 kg in total. The airlines provide 10 kg weight for luggage and 5 kg for hand carry. If the luggage is overweight, trekkers must pay an extra charge. The airlines charge USD 1 per kg in case of overweight. So, trekkers should pack their luggage accordingly.

Unmanaged Road Condition

The road connecting Kathmandu to the Everest region is not the smoothest. There is no direct roadway connecting the capital city with Lukla. It is extended to Salleri or Phaplu, and reaching Lukla takes a few days. The road to Salleri or Phaplu is off-road, narrow, and bumpy. During monsoon season, landslides can sweep away the road. The unmanaged and poor maintenance of the roads makes them unreliable. Moreover, driving from Kathmandu to Salleri takes 8 to 12 hours. It is an uncomfortable and bumpy ride on a rough and unpaved roadway.

Weather Impact on Trail

The weather hugely impacts the trails of the Everest region. During spring and autumn, the precipitation level is low. Hence, there is minimal rainfall, and the trails are dry and in good condition for trekking. The summer season coincides with the monsoon, so there is heavy rainfall in the lower and hilly regions. It makes the trails wet, slippery, and muddy. There is also a risk of landslides and mudslides. Meanwhile, the high-elevation trails in winter are icy, slippery, and covered with snow. It makes navigation harder and risky. Therefore, weather hugely impacts the trekking trails.

Transportation Option for Everest View Panorama Trek

There are two modes of transportation options for the Everest View Panorama Trek. They are explained in detail below:

Road transportation

Locals usually use the road transportation. As no direct roadway links Kathmandu to Lukla, you must drive to Salleri or Phaplu first. There are also other alternatives, such as driving to Jiri or Thamedanda. You must then trek to Lukla, which will take a few days. The road is unpaved and underdeveloped, so only small buses and jeeps drive here. Road transportation is suitable for trekkers with flexible itineraries and those who want to follow the old route to the Everest region. The various options for road transportation are as follows:

Drive to Jiri: The off-road drive to Jiri takes around 9 hours. Depending on the road conditions, you must trek for 7 to 8 days to reach Lukla. It is the early route used by the Everest expedition team and is also known as the “Pioneers’ Route.”

Drive to Phaplu: It takes 9 hours to drive to reach Phaplu. It takes 3 to 4 days to reach Lukla from here.

Drive to Thamedanda: This relatively new stop opened after a road extension project in the Everest region. It takes 9 to 10 hours to drive from Kathmandu to Thamedanda. Getting to Lukla from here takes only a few days, so it is a great option.

Air transportation

The most common way for trekkers to reach Lukla is by air. It is short and convenient but more expensive than roadway transportation. There are two options for air transportation:

Fly from Kathmandu: You can take a direct flight from Tribhuvan International Airport, which takes about 40 minutes.

Fly from Ramechhap: This is the alternative route, and it requires a 5-hour drive from Kathmandu. Air traffic congestion in Kathmandu airport can direct the flight to Manthali Airport, Ramechhap. It takes only 20 minutes to reach Lukla from Ramechhap.

Why Do We Need Acclimatization Day at Namche Bazaar?

Yes, you need an acclimatization day at Namche Bazaar to minimize the risk of altitude sickness. Namche sits at an altitude of 3440 meters, which is a perfect location to take a rest day. The oxygen level in the atmosphere continues to decrease from here onwards. It helps your body to adjust to the growing elevation and changing environment. Similarly, taking acclimatization at Namche also allows your body to rest and recover for the trek ahead. On the acclimatization day, you will explore Namche or take a short excursion to the surrounding places. Taking an acclimatization day at Namche Bazaar is crucial not only for enjoyable trekking but also for safety purposes.

Accommodation on 7 days Everest Panorama Trek

When trekking to the Everest region, the most common means of accommodation you get is teahouses. They offer basic facilities with dormitory rooms, shared bathrooms, and communal dining spaces where you can interact with other trekkers. These accommodations provide their guests with beds, mattresses, pillows, and blankets. Usually, the rooms have poor insulation, so carry a sleeping bag to keep yourself warm at night.

There are a few well-facilitated accommodations in Lukla and Namche Bazaar. Some have single rooms with attached bathrooms, but they are rather expensive. For a raw and authentic experience, stay at local teahouses. They may be simple and basic but affordable. Note that you must pay extra for services like hot water/ showers, internet access, phone calls, etc. These teahouses also offer a glimpse of the local culture and lifestyle.

Besides staying in teahouses, you can also go camping if you want more adventures. You can carry camping gear from the beginning or ask your travel agency to arrange it. However, there are plenty of teahouses and lodges along the trek route, so it is best to stay in them rather than camping outside. The temperature also drops significantly at nighttime.

Meals During The Trek

During the 10-day Everest Panorama Trek, you will get to try various Nepalese meals as well as international cuisines. The teahouses and eateries may have a variety of menus. However, as you move to a higher elevation, the options may become limited. The ingredients are mostly locally sourced, and the foods are prepared fresh. Here is a list of meal options that you will find during the trek:

Meal options
Breakfast Eggs (boiled or omelets), bread, french toast, porridge, oats, muesli, pancakes, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, etc.
Lunch/ Dinner Dal Bhat, soup, noodles, momo, chow mein, thukpa, Sherpa stew, spring rolls, salad, french fries, fried rice, steak, pasta, spaghetti, pizza, sandwiches, rice pudding, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, soft drinks, etc.

Nepali traditional cuisine, such as Dal Bhat, vegetables, soups, and momo, is usually served for lunch and dinner. Similarly, for breakfast, you have options like bread, omelets, pancakes, tea, or coffee. If you are diet-conscious, you must inform your agency before your trekking journey. When booking with us, you can stay at teahouses with three meal facilities.

Beverages Option

You will also find various beverage options during the Everest Panorama Trek. Tea (black/ milk/ green) and coffee are available at almost every teahouses and eateries. Similarly, you can find other drink options, such as hot chocolates, juices, soft drinks, and alcoholic beverages. The standard meals come with tea and coffee. During a high-altitude trek, it is best to avoid caffeine and alcoholic beverages. They can cause altitude sickness or worsen its symptoms.

Internet & Communication

The internet and communication facilities are available during the Everest Panorama Trek. The accommodations along the route offer internet and WiFi service for an additional charge. However, the connectivity is poor and not suitable for heavy data-intensive work. The services in lower regions are usually stable. As you go higher, the connection becomes poor and, in some cases, non-existent.

For better communication, you can use local SIM cards. Nepal Telecom (NTC) and Ncell are two of the most popular SIM cards, offering a wide range of services and data packages at an affordable price. You can get data packages and stay connected with your family and friends. However, the phone signals can also get weaker at certain remote locations.

Who Can Take Everest View Panorama Trek?

Hence, anyone with good health and fitness level can join the trek. It is also a perfect venture for beginners. The trails are well-designated and marked, so they are entirely safe. However, a high-altitude trek takes you to an altitude above 3500 meters. There is a slight risk of altitude sickness, so treks must take adequate acclimatization days.

Everest View Trek For Females

The Everest View Trek is a suitable option for solo female trekkers. Nepal is a safe country with a very low crime rate. It is a short and easy trek that can be completed within ten days. The trails are also well-marked, so there is no need to worry about navigation. The locals are also friendly and welcoming. Similarly, the trekking community is also supportive, so female trekkers can participate in the journey with peace of mind. Due to the remoteness of the region, the availability of female hygiene products is limited. Thus, they should carry the products (menstrual supplies, hand sanitizer, wipes, biodegradable soaps, etc.).

The Everest View Trek is also perfect for senior citizens and children. It is moderate and relatively easier than other treks of the Everest region. The average trekking hours per day is 4 to 5 hours. During the trek, you will reach the highest altitude of 3860 meters, which is relatively low. Therefore, the risk of altitude sickness is also minimal. The itinerary also has an acclimatization day to prevent altitude-related sickness risks. Anyone with good physical fitness, including senior citizens and children, can complete the journey with proper preparation.

Why Is Everest View Terk Perfect for Families?

The Everest View Trek is perfect for families due to its moderate trails and relatively low-altitude journey. The trek takes ten days to complete, and the Everest region is easily accessible via flight. The trails are well-marked and designated so that trekkers will have no problem with navigation. Similarly, the trek’s highest point is 3860 meters. There are minimal risks of altitude sickness compared to other popular treks like Everest Base Camp Trek, Gokyo Treks, etc. Although the trails are demanding, with steep ascending and descending sections, they are very few. The average trekking hours is also 4 to 5 hours each day. There is no need to cross high mountain passes or glacier moraines during the trek. As a result, the Everest View Panorama Trek is perfect for families.

How to Prepare For Everest View Trek?

Train well ( Physically, Mentally)

Although the Everest Panorama Trek is moderate, trekkers must still trek on rough, narrow, steep, narrow trails. It requires good physical and mental fitness. They must have the strength, stamina, and endurance to trek on rough and rugged terrains. Similarly, they must be prepared to hike for 4 to 5 hours each day during the trek. The weather can also change rapidly as you move to higher altitudes. It further adds challenge to the trek. The remote location, lack of facilities, and unpredictable weather can stress trekkers. So, trekkers must train for the journey at least three to two months prior.

Choose Reliable Trekking Guides

There are numerous trekking agencies offering Everest region trekking. Choosing the right one can be challenging. Check their track record and customer reviews before choosing them. Similarly, it is also crucial to hire a registered and reliable trekking guide. The guides not only help to navigate the trail but also provide logistical support. In emergencies, they are vital in providing immediate help and support to trekkers. Reliable guides from reputed trekking agencies are also trained to provide first-aid services.

Acclimatization – even in a short time

Whether a beginner or a seasoned trekker, take an acclimatization during the trek. It helps to minimize the risk of altitude sickness. Hence, take acclimatization even for a short time. This allows your body to adapt to high altitudes and changing temperatures. Similarly, it helps your body to recover and re-energize for the journey. The demanding trail will wear you out, physically and mentally. Therefore, acclimatization helps to prepare for the Everest Panorama Trek.

Hydrate Regularly

It is easy to get dehydrated during the trek, exposing trekkers to the risk of altitude sickness. Proper hydration also helps to improve one’s physical performance. You will sweat a lot while climbing up and down the trail, causing dehydration. So, drink plenty of water each day. Drink at least 3 to 4 liters of water to keep yourself hydrated. You can also drink electrolytes to replenish salts lost from your body through sweating.

Gear Up Wisely

Gear also plays a crucial role in making the Everest Panorama Trek comfortable and enjoyable. The temperature and weather can change as you move from lower to higher altitude regions. Hence, it is essential to carry adequate clothing and the right gear. It is vital to layer up to keep yourself warm when the temperature drops. Carry equipment like trekking poles, rain gear, and sleeping bags. However, packs light and smart. Do not overpack and carry only what is essential for the journey.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is mandatory for trekking in Nepal, including the Everest Panorama Trek. It is a high-altitude journey with some risk. Thus, travel insurance offers financial safety and peace of mind during the trek. Your travel insurance should cover an altitude up to 3860 meters above sea level. Similarly, it should cover medical expenses like altitude sickness, emergency bills, and helicopter rescue operations. In an emergency, your guide will use the travel insurance to call for helicopter rescue or immediate medical assistance. You must provide the travel insurance to your trekking agency before the journey.
