Day 01

Arrival To Kathmandu

A representative from CoreTreks will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. After you’ve settled in, we’ll introduce you to your trekking guide and other company staff. You’ll be briefed about the journey at our office and feel free to ask any questions regarding the trip during this session. After that, we’ll be doing a bit of walking around the streets of Thamel.

After our breakfast, we’ll be taking a long ride from Kathmandu toward Jiri. We won’t be doing any trekking on this day as the ride itself is long enough to consume our day. There are some great views as the landscapes outside us roll by. Upon arrival to Jiri, we head towards our hotel and call it a day.

On this day we begin our trek. This adventurous trail offers us beautiful countryside scenery from each ridge top as we will be passing through lively villages and farms. We then follow the muddy trail to Deurali and cross local villages, finally stopping for the night at Bhandar.

We begin our trek by walking downhill through a valley to the Likhu River on this day. We make the long climb to Lamjura Pass from here. The first part of the climb is a bit steep and then it goes towards Sete.

Sete To Junbesi Via Lamjura Pass

We will be heading towards Junbesi, following through the Lamjura Pass. The climb to Lamjura Pass is steep and difficult. However, the amazing scenery makes this part of the trek worthwhile as we will be passing through maple and rhododendron forests. This is the highest point between Jiri and Namche Bazar.

Acclimatization At Junbesi

It’s time to take a break after days of walking. We’ll be getting accustomed to the climate and high elevation gradually as we stay over in Junbesi to adjust our bodies. If you’re up for it then we could visit nearby Tashi Thongmom Gompa which makes a fascinating day trip with historic interest but if you’re not feeling it then we’ll just rest for the day.

Junbesi To Nunthala

Time to march again! We cross the Junbesi River as we exit the village, heading towards the Khumbu through an uphill trail. From Junbesi the trail leads to the hospital and airstrip at Phaplu and the district headquarters and bazaar at Salleri. After a while, we’ll reach Phurteng from where we’ll get a glimpse of the mighty Everest for the first time along with Mera and Kantega Peaks.

We start our trek after breakfast with an easy walk through Chaurikharka village and then descend towards the Dudhkoshi Ghat. The trail follows the bank of the Dudh Koshi River until Phakding which will be our destination for the day. After breakfast at Phakding the trek begins towards the mountain town of Namche Bazaar. Several small settlements and villages are crossed en route toward Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazaar is the commercial hub of the Khumbu region because of its location and topography.

Namche Bazar is the perfect place for acclimatization. A short hike towards Syangboche (3720m) is done after breakfast. The journey towards Tengboche starts following the trails which marches along the glacial waters of the Dudh Koshi with mesmerizing views of the Himalayas. A famous monastery lies at Tengboche where a 20-foot sculpture of Buddha, incredibly ornate wall hangings, and the musical instruments and robe of the Lamas can be seen. A prayer ceremony is done every day in the monastery and the group will be taken to observe the prayer either in the evening or morning depending on the trekking schedule.

Dingboche is another great place for acclimatizing. After breakfast, a hike to Nangkartshang Peak is an amazing way to acclimatize the body. Trekkers can spend the rest of the afternoon strolling around the villages or resting.

The trek further resumes by walking towards Dhungla where an aid post is situated at a place called Pheriche which provides treatment for the trekkers in need. The trail continues along the lateral moraine of Khumbu Glacier and passes by stone memorials of the climbers who have passed away during their summits. As we move further upward, the risk of getting altitude sickness arises so it is important to take it easy.

Lobuche To Gorakshep And A Walk Towards Everest Base Camp

The final destination of the trek is at hand this day. After breakfast, a slow walk from Lobuche starts to avoid altitude sickness. The trail runs alongside the sight of the world’s highest glacier, the Khumbu Glacier. After about 3 hours of walking, we will reach Gorakshep, where the burdens and baggage are laid at the lodge. After lunch, we will walk towards the Everest Base Camp, the closest one to Mount Everest without mountaineering equipment. The view of the Khumbu Icefall can be seen from the base camp, which is pretty spectacular. After some time at the Everest Base Camp, we will return to Gorakshep for the night.

Gorakshep To Kala Patthar And Then Towards Pheriche

The journey from Gorakshep to Kala Patthar is considered to be the most difficult walk during the whole trek but it is however the most rewarding as well. Kala Patthar is a popular viewpoint where you can get the best panoramic view of Mount Everest and the surrounding Himalayas. The hike towards Kala Patthar is done early at dawn since the sight of sunrise is one of the prime attractions of the whole trek. The view is truly something to behold as the sun rises from within Mount Everest and changes the colors of the Himalayan ranges from silver to gold. After enjoying the mesmerizing views and getting all the photographs you need, we head back to Gorakshep and then walk down towards Pheriche.
