One of the main highlights of this trek is the stunning panoramic view of the Himalayan giants. The sunrise and sunset views from Pikey Peak are truly breathtaking. Best Season For Pikey Peak Trek

The season of trekking to Pikey Peak solely depends upon your preferences. But we recommend trekking during Spring (March to May) and August (September to November). Besides this, the other two seasons are a little more dangerous. Here are the detailed explanations.

Spring (March To May)

Trekking Pikey Peak during this season offers you the best stunning views of the snowcapped mountain. It provides clear skies with mild temperatures and stable weather. The blooming rhododendron flower is the major highlight for trekking this season. However, you can encounter mild rainfall, and the trails can become too crowded. Make sure you book the accommodation earlier.

August (September To November)

This is another perfect season to explore the Pikey Peak. Like Spring, Autumn offers clear skies, mild temperatures, and stable weather. There is also a low chance of encountering rainfall in this season. Also, since it falls in the festival season, this season is perfect if you want to immerse yourself in local culture even more. But make sure it's crowded.

Summer (June-August)

Summer welcomed rainfall, making trekking difficult. The weather is unstable, and you may also encounter heavy rainfall. The rainfall welcomes muddy trails, and the roaming clouds can dim the visibility. If you plan to trek this season, get all the necessary gear and never miss carrying a raincoat. We highly recommend you not to climb in this season.

Winter (December To February)

The winter season brings heavy snowfall, making the trail slippery. Although the views can be mesmerizing, the heavy snowfall can be a huge problem. Also, many teahouses at high altitudes close during the season because of extremely cold temperatures. Make sure you pack heavy and layering clothes if you are trekking in this season.

Physical Requirements For Trek

The trek to Pikey Peak is relatively easy, but it still requires a moderate level of physical fitness. You should prepare to walk 5-6 hours daily on varied terrain. To get through continuous uphill and downhill, you must engage yourself in regular cardiovascular exercise, such as hiking, running, or cycling. This will help build the necessary stamina and strength.

Although this trek does not require technical skills, being in good health and having a positive mindset is necessary. Reaching 4,065 meters, knowing the potential for altitude sickness is important. Acclimatization days and staying hydrated will help mitigate this risk. Proper preparation makes the trek achievable for most people with a reasonable fitness level.

Essential info for Pikey Peak Trek

Single Or Guided Trek

Choosing between a single or guided trek for the Pikey Peak depends on your preferences and experience. A single trek offers flexibility and a budget-friendly option. It allows you to set your own pace and schedule. However, it comes with challenges like navigation difficulties, safety concerns, and the potential to miss out on local cultural insights.

Pikey Peak View Point
Pikey Peak View Point

A guided trek provides safety, local knowledge, and logistical support. Guides handle permits, accommodations, and food, making the trek easier and more informative. This option is ideal for those new to trekking or unfamiliar with the region, ensuring a safer and more enriching experience.

Transportation Options

When you make a reservation with Core Treks, your trekking package includes all arrangements and transportation costs. For those with limited time or who prefer a shorter itinerary, flying into and out of Phaplu, the starting point of the Pikey Peak, is a suitable option.

local bus and jeep
Local Bus And Jeep

If you have more time or are on a tighter budget, you can take a beautiful Jeep ride to Phaplu. Whether traveling in a private or public vehicle, the trip takes about eight hours, but that’s only an estimate. Nepalese roads can be quite uneven and poorly maintained. There will be fewer services along the route.

Telephone, Internet, And Battery Charging

The majority of tea shops offer mobile reception and phone service. But, because of the peculiarities of living in the mountains, things can change suddenly. Before you leave, you can buy a data SIM card in Kathmandu if you’d like. In the Everest region, NCELL is a reputable supplier of 3G internet services.

Many tea houses offer WiFi for about $3 daily, payable in Nepali rupees. However, internet services can be unreliable due to weather and other issues. Most tea houses have electricity or solar power. You may be able to charge your devices in your room, but sometimes you need to pay a few dollars (in rupees) to charge in the main dining hall. We recommend you carry a power bank during your trek in the Everest region.
