Mt Pumari

6. Mount Tawache:

Mount Tawache, or Taboche, is a mountain belonging to the Khumbu region within the Himalayas of Nepal. It is connected to Cholatse by a long ridge. Permit for 1-day Everest Helicopter Tour

You will need two permits for the EBC Tour by helicopter:

Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit

The Everest Base Camp lies within the Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hence, you will need an entry permit to access the region, including for the EBC Heli Tour. You can obtain the permit at the Nepal Tourism Board office in Kathmandu or at the national park’s entrance in Monjo. It is a single-entry permit and remains effective until you exit the park’s boundary. The fees collected from the permit are used to maintain the infrastructure, protect the flora and fauna, and preserve the natural environment. The costs of the permit are:

  • SAARC nationals: NPR 1500
  • Non-SAARC nationals: NPR 3000
  • Free entry for children under 10 years.

Khumbu Rural Municipality Permit

You will also need to obtain the local government permit, i.e., Khumbu Rural Municipality Permit. The permit is necessary to access the areas within the Everest region, including Lukla, Namche Bazaar, and others. You can obtain it at the Lukla Checkpost or Nepal Tourism Board office in Kathmandu. The permit helps the local government to manage tourism, promote the local economy, and preserve the environment. The cost of the local permit is NPR 2,000 for the first four weeks and NPR 2,500 after four weeks.

Note: CoreTreks’ 1 Day Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour package includes all the permits and government fees. You must provide your passport and two photos for the permits. Please carry your passport or ID card during the tour, as you may need it for verification purposes. Also, it is best to obtain the permits in Kathmandu before the tour to avoid any hassle.

Best Time For Everest Base Camp Helicopter Landing Tour in 2025

Are you planning an Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour in 2025? Then, you need to know the best time for it. The weather at the Himalayas changes rapidly. It impacts the visibility, safety, and the entire tour experience. Choosing the best time helps to reduce the weather uncertainties. Spring and autumn are the best times with the most stable climatic conditions and excellent visibility. The EBC Helicopter landing tour is available in both summer and winter. However, the weather is not highly favorable, and visibility is often poor. Therefore, you must closely check the weather forecast and seize the opportunity when the skies clear for a safe flight and great visibility.

Spring (March to May)

Spring is one of the best times for a helicopter tour to Everest Base Camp. The favorable weather and warm temperature make it a peak tourist season. It is also the time when the flora and fauna are the most active. Hence, the entire lower forest areas with dense rhododendron groves burst into colorful blooms. The clear skies offer brilliant visibility and unobstructed views of the mountains. The pros and cons of the heli tour in spring are as follows:

Pros

Cons

  • Stable weather for flights.
  • Clear skies and excellent visibility.
  • Pleasant temperatures.
  • Blooming rhododendron and wildflowers.
  • Clear views of the mountain vistas.
  • Peak tourist season, so it is crowded.
  • The price can be higher.

Summer (June to August)

With summer, the monsoon also begins in Nepal. This means there is heavy rainfall in most of the lower and hilly areas of the country. The heavy rain clouds and rain result in poor visibility. As a result, there are frequent flight delays and cancellations during this time of year. But the landscapes look incredibly vibrant, and the forests are lush. Here are the major pros and cons of the EBC Helicopter Tour in summer:

Pros

Cons

  • Lush green and thriving landscapes.
  • Very few travelers, so it’s less crowded.
  • Heavy rain and cloud result in poor visibility.
  • High chances of flights getting delayed or cancelled.
  • Flying can be rough and turbulent.
  • Clouds can obstruct mountain views.

Autumn (September to November)

The most favorable and peak season for the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour is autumn. It offers the most stable and favorable weather for the tour. It falls in the post-monsoon season, so the rainfall ends as autumn begins. The days are bright and sunny with crisp skies. Additionally, the visibility is extremely clear. You can get the best views of the glistening snow-capped peaks and vibrant landscapes. The pros and cons of choosing autumn for the tour are as follows:

Pros

Cons

  • Crisp and clear skies.
  • Excellent visibility, so clear views of the surroundings and mountains.
  • Stable weather and mild temperatures.
  • Best time for photography.
  • Peak season, so it can get crowded.
  • There is high demand, and the prices can spike.

Winter (December to February)

The weather begins to get colder with the start of winter. There is also heavy snowfall in the higher areas of the Everest region. There is a risk of high winds and snowstorms. It can cause flight delays or postponements. Although it is an off-season for trekking and touring, winter offers the best views of the Himalayas’ snowy landscapes. It is nothing less than a winter wonderland. The pros and cons of the winter EBC Heli Tour are as follows:

Pros

Cons

  • Enjoy a beautiful and unique view of the snowy landscapes of the Khumbu region.
  • Crisp and clear skies with spectacular views of the snow-capped mountain vistas.
  • Fewer travelers and a peaceful experience.
  • Extremely cold temperatures at higher altitudes.
  • Flight delays and postponements due to the risk of snowstorms and blizzards.

Overall recommendations:

For the best combination of clear skies, pleasant temperatures, and minimal risk of cancellations, aim for Spring (March-May) or Autumn (September – November).

If you’re on a budget and willing to accept a higher chance of cancellations, Summer (June—early September) might be an option.

Winter (December – February) offers unique scenery but comes with the most significant risk of cancellations.

Important note:

  • Weather conditions can be unpredictable, and flight cancellations due to unforeseen circumstances are always possible.
  • Always check the latest weather forecast and consult your chosen tour operator before booking your trip.

Additionally, you might consider including the following information:

  • Festivals and holidays: Mention any major festivals or holidays that could affect availability or prices during specific times of the year.
  • Personal preferences: Briefly touch upon factors like personal tolerance for cold weather or preference for specific landscapes (e.g., blooming flowers in spring vs. snow-capped peaks in winter).

The popular viewpoint of Kalapathar or “Black Rock” is the ultimate spot for witnessing the unobstructed view of Mount Everest. Famous mountaineer Bill Tilman and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay climbed the vantage in 1953 AD. Hence, it is undoubtedly one of the major attractions of the Everest Helicopter Landing Tour. The vantage point is the dream destination for trekkers and photographers. The snow-capped Himalayas against the blue sky make for a spectacular photography setting. Important To Know On Mount Everest Heli Tour

One of the key information that every traveler must know is that the Everest Helicopter Tour does not land at Mount Everest Base Camp. The glacier and ice formations around the base camp are constantly moving. As a result, the terrain is unstable. The shifting ice and rockfalls can also destroy the landing areas. These make the helicopter landing here very risky. Another reason for the aircraft not landing at the base camp is that it is not possible to see the summit of Everest from here. The peaks of Lola, Lhotse, and Nuptse obscure the view of the summit.

Similarly, the ban on the helicopter landing at Everest Base Camp also has ties to environmental concerns. It can affect the landscape, leave fuel waste, and accelerate glacier melting. To conserve the fragile environment around the base camp and its surroundings, commercial landing is not permitted. Consequently, landing at Kalapathar is a better idea. You can enjoy an unparalleled mountain view and even see the summit of Everest without obstruction. Likewise, landing at Gorakshep and the Everest View Hotel is a safer and more responsible option. You can get a close-up view of the panoramas without any risk or effect on the environment.

New Rules for Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tours

Due to the popularity of the Everest Helicopter Tours, new rules have been introduced. These rules aim to increase passenger safety and promote environmental conservation, along with effective management of air traffic. Here are some key rule updates for the tour:

  • There are daily flight limits. The rule was introduced to reduce air traffic and minimize environmental impact.
  • All passengers must obtain the permits (Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit and Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit) for the tour.
  • Operators must coordinate with the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) for airspace permission. They must also comply with all the guidelines set by them.
  • Certified and experienced pilots are required to fly helicopters. In addition to following the safety protocols, they must also follow specific prescribed flight paths.

CoreTreks complies with all the new rules and regulations. With all the changes, you might wonder if the new rules may change the tour experience. Rest assured. Despite the latest changes, the experience remains accessible, luxurious, and hassle-free. Here are also some tips that you, as a traveler, can do to play your part as well :

  • Book your EBC Heli Tour early.
  • Check for updates with your tour operator and stay informed about permits and flight schedules.
  • Do not litter around the landing area and keep it clean to protect the pristine status of the Himalayas.
  • Follow the rules and be environmentally responsible. Contribute to preserving the environment for future visitors.
