Mardi Himal is among the lesser-known trek destinations of Nepal, but it has become more accessible than ever. A road from Pokhara connects to trailheads like Kande. Hence, it has become easier to reach the starting point and begin the journey. With the road accessibility, the local transport services have also expanded. So, it has become easier to plan a flexible and short itinerary. If you are looking for a short and easily accessible trek, close to Pokhara, Mardi Himal is a top destination for 2025.

Improved trekking infrastructure

Another reason to take the Mardi Himal Trek in 2025 is the improved trekking infrastructure. Over the years, the infrastructure, including trails, teahouses, and bridges, has undergone improvements. As a result, trekking to Mardi Himal has become safer and more comfortable. The trails are well-marked but still retain their offbeat and rustic charm. The suspension bridges are stable, and the teahouses offer clean rooms with warm showers and facilities such as internet services. You can find good lodging facilities in higher-altitude areas, like Low Camp and High Camp.

Explore the hidden mountain trail

Compared to other commercialized routes in the Annapurna region, like Annapurna Base Camp and Annapurna Circuit, the trail of Mardi Himal remains pristine and untouched. You will explore through the dense forests, alpine meadows, ridges, and hidden valleys. Each moment of the journey allows you to discover something new. The trek offers a chance to experience the raw beauty of the Himalayas in a serene atmosphere, free from crowds.

Front row seats to the Himalayas

One of the major reasons to choose the Mardi Himal Trek in 2025 is to get the front-seat views of the magnificent mountains. From the very start of the journey, the beautiful Annapurna and Dhaulagiri will follow you. As you move to the higher altitude, the vistas become gorgeous and up close. There are also various viewpoints along the way, like Forest Camp, Low Camp, Badal Danda, Mardi Base Camp, and more. These spots offer excellent spots to witness the panoramas and take surreal photographs. The mountain views that you will get from the front row seats are Annapurna I (8,091 m/ 26,545 ft), Annapurna South (7,219 m/ 23,684 ft), Machhapuchhre (6,993 m/ 22,943 ft), Mardi Himal (5,587 m/ 18,330 ft), Hiunchuli (7,219 m/ 23,687 ft), and more.

Mardi Himal Trek offers excellent value for money along with stunning views and an enriching experience. Compared to other Himalayan adventures, it is more affordable. The serene and scenic trails, gorgeous views, and raw Himalayan experience of the Mardi Trek cost only a fraction of what popular treks like Everest Base Camp and Annapurna Base Camp cost. You can also customize the trek as per your needs and preferences.

Why Mardi Himal Is Perfect for Acclimatization Trek?

If you’re seeking a training ground for your high-altitude, multi-week treks, such as Everest Base Camp Trek or the Annapurna Circuit Trek, the Mardi Himal Trek is an excellent choice. This trek offers a moderately challenging route. Additionally, there is no need for mountaineering skills or prior experience. It is particularly well-suited for acclimatization. Similarly, it has a gentle and steady pacing.

The Mardi Himal Trekking trail has been carefully designed to ensure a comfortable ascent. It has well-marked paths and a clear route. The gradual ascent allows you to adjust to the growing altitude naturally. One of the advantages of this trek is that you can quickly descend to lower altitudes if you start feeling unwell. There are also basic but comfortable accommodations along the trails. They provide good stops to rest overnight for your body to recover. The gradual altitude gain and ideal acclimatization stops along the Mardi route help to minimize the risk of altitude sickness.

The Mardi Himal Trek is an excellent option for those planning to tackle more challenging treks. The moderate difficulty level of the trek is physically less demanding. It is suitable for first-time trekkers or getting a taste at trekking on the rugged trails of the Himalayas. You will get exposure to high altitudes above 4,000 meters. It offers a real experience of trekking in thin air and learning how your body reacts. Hence, Mardi Himal Trek prepares you for higher-altitude adventures.

Accommodation Options in Mardi Himal Trek

You will find hotels, lodges, and Teahouses along the Mardi Himal Trek route. It ensures a comfortable and enjoyable stay throughout the trek. Accommodations in lower-altitude areas offer more comfort and services. As you move to the higher regions, they become more basic due to the remote location and lack of infrastructure. A brief on these accommodation options is as follows:

1. Hotels & Lodges: Hotels and lodges are available mostly at the lower altitude areas of the Mardi Himal route. They provide comfortable and convenient lodging options for trekkers. These establishments offer basic amenities, including comfortable beds, blankets, and clean rooms. The cost per night is usually around USD 8 to 15 per person. It may also cost more depending on the services. You will have to pay an additional charge for hot showers and WiFi. They are primarily available in villages like Kande, Siding, and Australian Camp. The Mardi Himal hotels and lodges tend to be crowded during peak season.

2. Teahouses: Teahouses are the popular choice for accommodation along the Mardi Himal Trail. These establishments offer a cozy and rustic atmosphere, often run by local families. Moreover, they are cost-effective and budget-friendly. The rooms are small, traditional Nepali-style, and are shared. Bathrooms are also mostly communal. Mardi Himal teahouses offer authentic local hospitality. You will get to interact with locals and fellow trekkers, and share experiences/ stories over warm meals. Staying at teahouses costs anywhere from USD 4 to 10 per person. The electricity is usually limited, and you must pay additional charges for charging devices, hot showers, and WiFi. They are found at higher-altitude regions, such as Forest Camp, Low Camp, and High Camp. Mardi Himal teahouses are usually closed during winter due to the harsh weather conditions in higher regions. They are also fully booked during spring and winter.

3. Camping Facilities: Camping is also an option during the Mardi Himal Trek, but it is less popular. Teahouses and lodges are readily available along the route, so only a few prefer to camp. Moreover, camping is more expensive than staying at lodges and teahouses. It is because you need to arrange additional equipment (tents, sleeping bags, cooking equipment, etc.) and hire a camping crew. However, if you want to experience true wilderness, Mardi Himal Camping is a suitable option. You can set up your tents in open meadows or forest clearings and enjoy a campfire in the evening while stargazing. It is also ideal for those who want an expedition-style experience.

Meals During Mardi Himal Trek

During the Mardi Himal Trek in Nepal, you can expect to enjoy traditional Nepali and local cuisine. The staple food in Mardi Himal teahouses and lodges includes the traditional Nepali meal known as “Dal Bhat,” which consists of Dal (Lentil Soup), Bhat (Boiled Rice), Tarkari (Vegetables), and Achar (Pickle). Dal Bhat provides essential nourishment and energy for trekkers, ensuring a fulfilling and satisfying dining experience.

Dishes to try in Kathmandu
Newari Dish

Various other options are also available. The food is usually prepared traditionally, i.e., over an open fire. Ingredients are also fresh and locally sourced. The meat option is also available. But it is not recommended as it may not be hygienic. While traditional Nepali meals dominate, some teahouses offer limited Western dishes such as pasta, sandwiches, and burgers. Their availability is limited as you move to the higher region. The food is also home-cooked, which makes each meal during the Mardi Trek warm and satisfying. Here are the meals and dining options available along the trekking route:

  • Breakfast: Tibetan bread, eggs (boiled, omelets, or scrambled), jam, honey, roti/chapati, pancakes, toast, butter, porridge, muesli, and more.
  • Lunch/Dinner: Dal Bhat, Chow Mein, Noodles, Fried Rice, Thukpa, Momo, Soup, Roti/Chapati, Curries, Stir-Fried Vegetables, Salad, Pasta, Spaghetti, Pizza, and more.

The drink options include tea (black/ milk/ green), caffeine, soft drinks, juices, and hot chocolates. You can also find alcoholic beverages, but it is highly advised that you avoid them. Likewise, you also do not have to worry about safe drinking water. You can buy bottled water, but carry your own bottle and refill it with hot or filtered water. You will come across several water sources along the route. Although they look clean, do not drink directly from them. For further precaution, you can carry water purification tablets or a portable filter.

As you venture on the Mardi Trek, you will get to taste different flavors of traditional Nepali cuisine, particularly the wholesome Dal Bhat meal. While on the journey, enjoy the local hospitality and do not forget to enjoy the delightful warm meals. The food will not only fill your stomach but also energize you throughout the trek. The warm, home-cooked meals of the Mardi Himal region will also fill your soul and leave a long-lasting memory.

Best Time To Trek Mardi Himal

Nepal experiences four distinct seasonal cycles that significantly impact the country’s climatic conditions, including the Mardi Trek. Hence, choosing the right time is crucial. It helps to enhance the entire trekking experience. While each season offers something unique, the overall weather conditions of spring and autumn are the best for trekking. Summer and winter are the least favorable seasons and also pose some weather-related risks.

However, if you are well-prepared for the challenges, you can still join and enjoy this remarkable trek. So, select the season that aligns with your preferences and expectations. Get ready to explore the captivating beauty of the Mardi Himal region. Here is further detail on each season so you can decide on which season is best for you:

Spring on the Mardi Himal’s hidden trail

The spring season (March to May) is one of the best times for the Mardi Himal Trek. It has one of the most favorable weather conditions and clear skies. The blooming rhododendron forests color the entire forest area. The precipitation level is also low, so there is very little rainfall. As a result, the visibility is brilliant. You can enjoy stunning views of the mountain panoramas.

The average temperature in spring ranges between 15°C and 20°C. The flora and fauna are most active at this time of the year. Hence, there is a higher chance that you can catch a glimpse of wildlife. Mardi Himal Trek in spring is one of the best times to explore its hidden and offbeat trails. The only drawback of traveling during spring is that the trails can get busier. More trekkers are on the trails, so you must book your accommodations in advance.

Pros

Cons

  • Blooming rhododendron forests
  • Stable weather and moderate temperature
  • Clear skies and excellent visibility
  • Active flora and fauna
  • Crowded trails and teahouses
  • Less peaceful trekking experience
  • Higher costs

Monsoon Mardi Himal adventure in summer

The monsoon also enters the country during the summer season (June to August). There is heavy rainfall in the lower and hilly regions of Nepal. The trails are wet, slippery, and infested with leeches. Visibility is also poor, and heavy rain clouds usually obstruct the views. However, the vegetation is lush, and the landscapes are vibrant. There are also very few trekkers on the trails.

The summer temperature is hot and humid. The daytime temperature ranges between 10°C and 23°C. Meanwhile, nighttime temperatures can drop by up to 5 °C. There are high chances of landslides and mudslides in summer. As a result, Mardi Himal Trekking in summer is not recommended. However, if you plan to trek in the summer, you must be well-prepared and carry the proper rain gear. Also, check the weather forecast regularly before starting your journey.

Pros

Cons

  • Lush and green landscapes
  • Fewer trekkers on the trail
  • Quiet teahouses and easy availability
  • Lower costs
  • Heavy rainfall, so muddy and slippery trails
  • Heavy clouds result in poor visibility and view obstruction

Crisp skies and autumn foliage of Mardi Himal

Autumn (September to November) is the peak and best time for the Mardi Himal Trek. It has the most favorable and stable weather conditions. As the autumn season begins in Nepal, rainfall ceases. Hence, the skies clear up, and the trails start to become dry. The rain cleanses the surrounding vegetation, leaving it fresh and crisp. The visibility in autumn is also excellent. It is the perfect time to take in the glorious mountain views.

The daytime temperature in autumn is around 20°C. Meanwhile, the nighttime temperature can drop to 5°C. The moderate temperature makes for a comfortable trekking experience. The most significant festivals in Nepal, Dashain and Tihar, also fall in autumn. You will also get a chance to enjoy the festive season as you trek through charming rural Nepal. Therefore, many trekkers are on trails during this time of the year. Book your flights and accommodations in advance, as they will likely get fully booked.

Pros

Cons

  • Favorable and stable weather
  • Mild temperature
  • Safe and dry trails
  • Crystal-clear mountain views
  • Golden forests and festive atmosphere
  • Peak trekking season, so the trails are crowded
  • Teahouses are crowded, and trekkers must book in advance

Winter wonderland trekking to Mardi Himal

The winter season is ideal for adventurers and experienced trekkers. With winter, the temperature starts to decrease. Meanwhile, the temperature in higher regions plunges below the freezing point. The harsh weather conditions, including snowfall and blizzards, can make the Mardi Himal Trek extremely challenging. There are also risks of high mountain pass blockage and avalanches. However, it is the best time to witness the snow-covered landscapes of the Annapurna region.

It is usually warm during the daytime, with temperatures around 9°C to 12°C. The nighttime temperature can drop to as low as -5°C. Trekking in winter is not recommended for beginners. Trekkers must also carry adequate clothing and snow gear, such as microspikes, crampons, ice axes, etc. As winter is the off-season for trekking, few trekkers are on the trails. Many accommodations at higher altitudes may close for winter, so book your stays in advance.

Pros

Cons

  • Quiet and peaceful trek experience
  • Clear skies
  • Snow covers the entire landscape, adding unique beauty
  • Great for adventurers
  • Heavy snow at higher altitude regions may block trails
  • Freezing temperatures at high camp
  • Teahouses may close temporarily

Mardi Himal Trek Route

Our Mardi Himal Trek journey begins with a 25-minute flight from Kathmandu (1,350 m/4,429 ft) to Pokhara (850 m/2,789 ft). You can also drive to Pokhara, which will take around 8 hours depending on the road conditions. The distance between the two cities is 200 km. Then, you will take a 4-hour jeep ride from Pokhara to Khade (1,770 m/5,807 ft). If you take a flight, you can enjoy unique aerial views of the landscapes and mountains. Similarly, if you take a drive on the winding roads, you can witness the beautiful countryside and river valleys. This is our starting point for the Mardi trek, which will begin here.

The trail from Khade ascends steeply and goes through a lush subtropical forest. We will gradually hike uphill towards Thulo Kharka, also popularly known as Australian Camp. The camp is a great viewpoint, giving panoramic views of the Annapurna range. We will continue trekking through dense forests of rhododendrons, oak, hemlock, and maple to reach Pitam Deurali (2,100 m/6,890 ft). The trail from Deurali is relatively moderate. It again goes through dense forest, allowing us to witness the rich flora and fauna. After 5 hours of trekking, we will arrive at Forest Camp (3,050 m/ 10,007 ft).

The trekking trail continues through the forest path. En route, we will come across several charming villages and terrace farms. Likewise, we can witness the stunning view of the Annapurna range, Machhapuchre, Mardi Himal, and more. The trek from Forest Camp to Low Camp (3,500 m/ 11,483 ft) takes 4 hours. We will gradually notice that the dense, verdant landscape changes into forests of pine as we head towards High Camp (3,900 m/12,795 ft). We will climb a ridge that gradually narrows as we proceed. Similarly, we can see deep valleys like the Modi Khola River, Mardi Khola, and Seti River Valley. After walking through the narrow ridgeline, we will reach the High Camp.

From High Camp, we will start our hike to Mardi Base Camp (4,500 m/ 14,764 ft). We will again climb alongside the narrow ridge and trek on varied terrains to reach the base camp. After a successful climb, we will enjoy the views and explore before descending to Low Camp. The trail continues to descend from Low Camp to Siding. There are a few uphill climbing sections and flat trails. After walking for a few hours, we will reach the old Lwong village (1,700 m/ 5,577 ft). We will continue our downhill climb to Phide (1,130 m/ 3,707 ft). It is a short descent of just 3 hours, and we will take a jeep back to Pokhara. The jeep ride is comfortable, convenient, and scenic. We will get to witness the beautiful settlements, rolling hills, and rivers along the way.

Transportation options for Mardi Himal Trek

There is no direct transportation available to take us from Kathmandu or Pokhara to Mardi Himal Base Camp. First, we must travel from Kathmandu to Pokhara and then from Pokhara to the trek starting point (Kande or Phedi). You can choose your starting point and then trek to the base camp. For this, you can use the following transportation options:

How to Reach Pokhara from Kathmandu for Mardi Himal Trek

To access the Mardi Himal Trek, you must travel from Kathmandu to Pokhara. You can take either the flight or the roadway. Based on your needs and preferences, you can select the transportation option that best suits you. Note that the cost will vary accordingly. Here is a brief on both:

By Flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara:

A flight from Kathmandu is the most convenient and comfortable mode of transportation. It takes around 25 minutes and offers gorgeous aerial views. Taking a flight is the best option for those who have limited time. It is also suitable for those who want to travel in luxury. However, flights are weather-dependent. During the off-season, flights can be delayed or cancelled due to unfavorable weather conditions. Additionally, it is highly recommended that you book your flights in advance, especially during peak travel seasons.

Several airlines, including Yeti and Buddha, operate daily flights between the two cities. The flight costs around USD 100 to 150 per person for a one-way trip. The cost can vary depending on the season and airline. The weight limit is 15 kg (10 kg for luggage and 5 kg for hand carry) per person. For extra weight, a charge of USD 1 per kilogram applies.

Another option for flying from Kathmandu to Pokhara is taking a helicopter ride. It is luxurious but costlier. You can either share a helicopter or charter a private ride. Chartering a private helicopter can cost anywhere from USD 2500 and above.

By Road from Kathmandu to Pokhara:

Taking the roadway is a longer but more budget-friendly option. It takes around 8 hours or more to reach Pokhara from Kathmandu, depending on the road conditions and mode of transportation. You can choose to take a local bus, travel on a tourist bus, or use a private vehicle. Here is the complete detail on the transportation:

Transportation

Approx. cost

Note

Local Bus USD 7 to 10 per person Budget-friendly, but crowded with basic seating. It makes multiple stops along the way, so the drive time is 7-9 hours.
Tourist Bus USD 15 to 25 per person More comfortable than the local bus. It is also slightly faster, with a drive time of 6 to 8 hours.
Private vehicle USD 100 to 150 (one way) Comfortable, convenient, and flexible. You can make stops for refreshment as needed, and the drive time is 6 to 7 hours.

Transportation from Pokhara to Mardi Himal Trek Starting Point

You will have to drive from Pokhara to the starting point of your trek. There is no air transportation available. There are two modes of road transportation available:

Local or Shared Jeep to Kande/Phedi:

A local or shared jeep is the best option for small groups. It is also cheaper than hiring a private jeep. However, you will have to share a ride with strangers. They also have a fixed departure time. Traveling on shared jeeps is an opportunity to forge friendships with new people and share the adventurous ride. The cost per person for a local or shared jeep is USD 5 to 10 per person for a one-way ride.

Private Jeep to Kande/Phedi:

Hiring a private jeep is a costlier but convenient option for transportation. You can make stops along the way, offering more flexibility than the local or shared jeep. Additionally, you do not have to share your space with other people. It is an ideal option for families, small groups, or trekkers who want privacy. The cost can vary from USD 60 to 100 per vehicle for a one-way ride.

Mardi Himal Trek Difficulty

Mardi Himal is a moderate-grade trek. It is a thrilling adventure that requires both physical and mental fitness. Despite this, the average daily trekking hours can vary between 4 and 6 hours. Similarly, you must climb steep uphill and downhill paths on varied terrains. There are also numerous steep stone staircases along the way. You must walk on a narrow ridge and exposed pathways to reach the Mardi Himal Base Camp. The off-the-beaten-path trail that takes you to the remote areas of the Annapurna region requires a reasonable level of fitness. If you’re considering the Mardi Himal Trek without Guide, it’s essential to have proper navigation skills, fitness, and confidence to handle the route independently.

As you trek along the ridges and ascend to higher altitudes, the feeling is exhilarating. You will also be greeted with spectacular mountain vistas. The highest point of the trek is at the Mardi Himal Base Camp at an elevation of 4,500 m (14,764 ft) above sea level. Due to the high elevation, there is a risk of altitude sickness. Its common symptoms include headaches, nausea, shortness of breath, and insomnia. Moreover, ascending to high altitude is physically straining. There is also the risk of overexertion.

The unpredictable weather and a lack of infrastructure also increase the difficulty of the Mardi Himal Trek. It can be mentally challenging. However, with proper preparation, you can overcome these difficulties. You must take proper acclimatization to minimize the risk of altitude sickness. Similarly, the right equipment and gear provide huge support during the trek. You must also do proper fitness training a few months before the journey. Although Mardi Himal is less demanding than other commercialized treks, its difficulty should not be underestimated.

Permits For Mardi Himal Trek

Foreign trekkers must obtain two permits for the Mardi Himal Trek. The required permits are as follows:

ACAP

You must obtain the Annapurna Conservation Area Project Entry Permit for the Mardi Himal Trek. Also known as ACAP, the permit allows trekkers to access the trekking trail within the Annapurna Conservation Area. Since the Mardi Himal trekking trail also lies within the conservation area, you need to get the permit. You can obtain it through a registered trek agency from the Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu or Pokhara. To apply for the ACAP, you need to provide a photocopy of your passport with a valid visa and two passport-size photographs. The cost of the permit is as follows:

  • SAARC Nationals: USD 8 per person
  • Non-SAARC Nationals: USD 25 per person

Note: CoreTreks 11 Days Mardi Himal Trek package includes the permit.

A Typical Day During Mardi Himal Trek

During the Mardi Himal Trek, your day will typically begin early. Some mornings, like at Mardi Himal Base Camp, you will wake up before dawn to capture the golden sunrise over Himalayan peaks. We will have breakfast around 7 AM. Depending on the day’s destination, we will start our trek early or a little late. There will be plenty of chances to enjoy the views and take photographs.

Mardi Himal Trek in April
Mardi Himal Trek

Around midday, we will take an hour-long lunch break. We will rejuvenate our energy and replenish our hydration. The hour-long break also provides us with a brief rest to adjust to the altitude before we move forward. Usually, the trek after lunch is shorter. Upon reaching our day’s destination, you can rest and explore around in the evening. The dinner is generally served around 7 PM. After the dinner, your guide will give you a short briefing for the next day’s trek. Then, you can chat, play games, watch documentaries, or learn a few Nepali greetings before calling it a night.

How to Prepare for the Mardi Trek?

To prepare for the Mardi Himal Trek, you will need to be physically fit, mentally prepared, and equipped with the proper gear. Begin with physical fitness training at least two to three months before the journey. You should focus on strengthening your core and legs. Exercises such as running, cycling, jogging, brisk walking, and swimming will help to build your stamina. Similarly, you can practice hiking with a weighted backpack to stimulate Mardi trekking conditions.

In addition to the exercise, you must also do proper research and planning for the adventure. You need to understand the difficulty and challenges of the trek. Likewise, research the trail, terrain, and weather conditions as well. It helps to prepare for the journey ahead mentally. Build realistic expectations and be ready for any unforeseen difficulties. You also need to choose an itinerary that suits your fitness level the best. Plan for acclimatization by following a steady pace and the principle of “climb high, sleep low.”

Another crucial preparation is the gear and equipment. Pack light but smart. Carry adequate clothes and layers that will keep you warm at all times. Depending on the season, you will also need to carry special gear and equipment. For example, if you are trekking in summer, you will need rain gear. So, prepare accordingly. It is best to choose the spring and autumn seasons for trekking, as the weather conditions are most favorable. You will also not require any special gear. With proper preparation, Mardi Himal trekking at high altitude is a safer, enjoyable, and memorable adventure.

Guide and Porter

The new trekking rule, as of April 2023, has become mandatory to hire a licensed guide for trekking in Nepal. The government of Nepal and the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) have made new rules to keep trekkers safe and support sustainable tourism. Hence, you must hire a licensed guide through a registered trekking agency for the Mardi Himal Trek. Hiring a porter is optional, but they provide huge logistical support and relieve trekkers of physical strain during the journey.

The guides will help ensure the trekker’s safety during the trek. They are mostly natives with deeper knowledge and expertise about the trek. The guides also have extensive first-aid training, so they can provide immediate medical assistance if necessary.  They will guide you through the local rules and customs and help bridge the gap between locals and trekkers.

The porters are also usually native to the region. They will carry your heavy luggage during the trek, relieving the physical strain. Trekking on the demanding trails of Mardi Himal is already difficult. Doing so while carrying a heavy load on the back can cause accidents. Hiring a porter will allow you to enjoy the journey baggage-free.

CoreTreks’ 11-Day Mardi Himal Trek package includes a guide and a porter. A highly experienced, licensed guide will accompany you. They are fluent in English, so you will have no problem with communication. Likewise, a single porter will carry the luggage of two trekkers. For additional service or queries, you can contact us!

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is mandatory for the Mardi Himal Trek. The trek’s highest point is 4,500 m/14,764 ft. Hence, there is the risk of altitude sickness. Despite taking proper precautions, accidents can still occur. In remote trails like Mardi Himal, there are no proper medical facilities or hospitals. In case of injuries or sickness, trekkers must descend to lower altitudes. In severe cases, helicopter evacuation is often the only way to provide immediate medical aid, which can be expensive. Thus, travel Insurance offers a financial safety net for trekkers in case of mishaps or accidents.

Hence, the travel insurance must cover:

  • High-altitude trekking (above 4,000 m/13,123 ft)
  • Emergency medical treatment
  • Altitude sickness
  • Accidents or injuries
  • Emergency helicopter evacuation
  • Trip cancellation or postponement
  • Luggage damage or loss

Before purchasing the insurance policy, review the policy to ensure it covers trekking at altitudes of 4,500 m or higher. Similarly, compare various providers. Some popular insurance providers are World Nomads, IMG Global, and Allianz Travel. Confirm all the coverage and limits of the policy for medical treatment, helicopter evacuation, and other emergency support. It is essential to understand the policy and ensure it includes everything mentioned in the paragraph above.

Mardi Himal Trek As An Alternative

For those seeking an alternative to the Annapurna Base Camp trek, the Mardi Himal Trek is a perfect option. While the Annapurna Base Camp trek goes through a deep gorge between Himchuli and Machhapuchhre, the Mardi Himal trail follows beautiful ridges, giving stunning views along the way. This alternative trek presents its own charm and advantages, making it a favorite among trekkers who have experienced both routes.

Compared to the Mardi Himal trek, the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) trek is longer. Although both have moderate grades, ABC is more challenging. Its trails are more demanding, with rugged terrain. On the other hand, the trails of Mardi Himal are off-beat and more isolated. If you want an alternative to the busy trails of Annapurna Base Camp, Mardi is perfect. However, the highest point of Mardi is 4,500 meters, while the maximum elevation of ABC is 4,130 meters. High altitudes can expose trekkers to the risk of altitude sickness. So, trekkers must take proper precautions.
