Information on Kathmandu City Day tour

Kathmandu Durbar Square: Kathmandu Durbar is an ancient Malla Kingdom of Nepal that dates back to 14th century. This site was declared as World Heritage Site by UNESCO back in 1997 and since thousands of tourists visit this historic place in Kathmandu each year. The prime attractions of this palace square are the art, architecture, craftworks and designs manifested in the pillars, buildings and windows, and the Hanuman Dhoka Museum. A big statue of Hanuman (who is one of the Hindu gods) is placed in front of the gate and hence the name. The palace is also surrounded by many small temples. This place is crowded with visitors and people all the time as it is an amazing hangout place for people of every age.

Swayambhunath Stupa: Also known as the Monkey Temple for its dense population of Monkeys, it is one of the oldest Buddhist Stupa in the Kathmandu Valley. This temple is a very sacred place for worship for Buddhists all over the world. One can observe large statues of Buddha, monasteries, and gompas in this stupa. This place also has a mythologic significance as it is believed that the stupa sits on the same place where the legendary Manjushree, the creator of Kathmandu Valley, had encountered a lotus in the valley lake. The Stupa lies on a hilltop and has a perfect vantage point from where the whole Kathmandu valley can be seen in its beauty and grandeur.

Pashupatinath Temple. This is very sacred religious site for Hindus all over the world. It is an oldest temple of a prime Hindu god, Lord Shiva, which holds a high value amongst Hindu pilgrims. Thousands visit this temple in Kathmandu each year for sightseeing or pilgrimage. Keep in mind though that only Hindus are allowed to enter inside the temple. For others, they can enjoy the surrounding areas of the temple along with crematorium where dead bodies are burnt into ashes. It is a Hindu tradition to cremate dead bodies in fire and the river bank that flows beside this temple is considered to be a holy river which is why it's a common sight to see these things here. As being a religious site, encounter with Sadhus - people who have rubbed their bodies with ashes with dread locked hairs - are also quite common.
